Are you curious about the island’s geological origin which is most intriguing characteristic of Milos? Witness the unique geological phenomena of this fascinating volcanic island and learn more about their formations and the significant role the rich subsoil played in the history and culture of the island.

This carefully designed excursion explores the terrain of Milos and the geological history behind it. An experienced escort will lead you into the mining history of Milos with important geological stops;  Starting from the renowned Milos Mining Museum where you can see exhibits and photographs of the island’s geological origin as well as see the obsidian collection (which is an absolute must see), later continue to the Salt fields where you will learn about the ancient port of Kanava and its importance from the Middle ages, then pass through the steep entrance of the Crater of Fyriplaka with the century-old cedar trees, see Kalamos (volcano ending) and admire the fumaroles from the observation standpoint of Agia Kyriaki beach. Then, we continue to the highlight of the island or the famous abandoned community of the old Sulphur Mines (Thiorichia) where the actual mines were fully operating until the 1950’s when the site was abandoned abruptly almost overnight. Next you will continue to the Aggeria mine which is the largest active bentonite mine in Europe, when finally the tour ends at the modern Mineral processing factory which is still operating today.

This tour is semi-private for small groups of 2-4, or it can be arranged privately by car for up to 4 persons.

Wonderful geological tour - not too long, but still composed of the main attractions of the island - we could go up the volcano (with fumaroles around us), smell the sulphur, feel the temperature from down the earth and go down the crater. Aggeria (a colorful mine) and Sulphur mine are also worth visiting. The guide was helpful and commited. All on time, according to the schedule including some additional attraction we enjoyed a lot! We absolutely recommend it!
